The films we like best are honest, irreverent, compelling, empathetic and direct.

We also like films that celebrate those universal themes that bind us - like love, laughter and loss - while pointing out our myriad differences along the way. We want to laugh, cry and shout about a lot of things. Most of all, we want to make films that affect you and leave a lasting impression.

Some of our films are commissioned, some produced to a tight brief; others are home-grown by us and like-minded people like Laundry Pictures. All of them share several notable features: they are exceptionally well researched, use beautiful cinematography and tell an engaging story.

Catherine Ryan is the founder of Madfly Films, building on a freelance career that has spanned almost every branch of the media - and the Atlantic - producing, directing and writing for theatre, television and radio; from award-winning documentaries to finely-targeted commercial communications. She honed her journalistic skills and developed an appreciation of political realities, while working for a New York film documentary house where she specialised in campaigning issues and social affairs. Her films have been screened at festivals worldwide and have won numerous awards.

On home ground, she has also produced high-quality work for national and international government agencies and departments, as well as major multinationals.

"We work with a team of award-winning talent to produce unique projects about subjects that matter; whether that takes us around the corner or around the world, the passion to tell a good human story is the same."
